Thanksgiving
-- by Mickey Hurt - Copyright 1997 -- mickhurt@wcc.net

On the last Thursday in November
We count our many blessings
Then we fill our tummies up
With turkey, pie and dressing

The days are now much shorter
Cool weather is here to stay
But our hearts are warmed by family
Gathered on this day

Your mouth will start to water
When you smell the fresh baked bread
Or see the chilled cranberry sauce
That's just the perfect shade of red

You hear women in the kitchen
You hear the children play
But, it's soon quiet around the table
When you bow your head to pray

After dinner, there is football
The men all watch and cheer
We'll hold these memories in our hearts
Untill the new ones come next year
