Little Things
-- by Anna Mae Wittig - Copyright 1999 -- akwittig@atlantic.net

It's often just the "little things,"
That bring my life much pleasure,
Children playing, a baby's smile,
Bring joy beyond all measure.

A phone call from a long-lost friend,
An e-mail unexpected,
A friendly thought sent cross the miles,
Happiness resurrected!

A walk alone on a deserted beach,
The seagulls as they fly,
An elderly couple holding hands,
With no words, just a sigh.

The sound of rain up on the roof,
Or falling gently in the trees,
The fragrance of the springtime,
Or a cooling summer breeze.

An unexpected hug,
Not from a friend, but from a stranger,
To know that kindness still exists,
Amidst this world of danger.

Yes, in this world of discontent,
The Lord sent on angel wings,
Happiness that can't be lost,
The love of "little things".
