Excusable Weather
-- by William Tozzi -- Copyright 1996 -- wtozzi@ix.netcom.com

The temperature soars.
I can't do the chores.
It's too hot to labor outside.
I'm nobody's fool.
I'll be where its cool,
and wait for the heat to subside.

It's seven below,
and starting to snow.
It's too cold to work out-of-doors.
I can't do a thing,
but wait until spring,
a good time for doing those chores.

The rain's coming down.
I'll try not to frown.
It's too wet to work in the yard.
And so, with a sigh,
I'll be where its dry,
and try not to labor too hard.

What a beautiful day
to go out and play.
It's too nice to linger indoors.
There's spring in the air.
These days are too rare
to waste them on yard work or chores.
