Wishing Stream
-- by Ellen Fair - Copyright 1997 -- fairelle@gte.net

I put my wish into a dream
And tossed it in the Wishing Stream
And watched it drift, oh so slow
When I was young -- long ago

Oh wish, oh dream! Where did you sail?
Did the magic winds so fail?
In the winds I've listened for a word
But not a sound from you is heard

Watching phosphorescence lights
I cast my eyes into the night
To hear the ocean's mystic tones
And I wonder where my dream has gone

And though at times my doubts increase
I wait, oh Wish, I wait for peace
Oh Dream, e'en though you're far at sea
I know you drift -- you're free -- so free
