Bulletins on Widowhood & Living Alone

Here we will post information on living alone and widowhood by and for senior citizens. If you wish to send information appropriate for senior citizens please send us an e-mail.
- Eight Ways to Meet New Friends -- Making new friends comes easy to most children. For adults it can be more challenging. So should you even make the effort? Yes! Years of research have shown that a strong social network is an important component of overall health. According to the Mayo Clinic HealthQuest newsletter, there are at least eight easy strategies to build new friendships.
- Get out with your pet. Make Conversation with those who stop to talk. (I'm sorry if I offend you but it reminded me of a story. It seems the town fathers were being pressured into cleaning up the streets and running off prostitutes. So they passes a law forbidding anyone from making soliciation remarks on the streets. So this resouceful prostitute, being upset with this new law, went and purchased herself a dog and named it "tis". So in the evening she would dress in proper attire and walk her dog calling out occasionally, "Here tis!" "Here tis!"
- Join a hobby group.
- Volunteer with a social service group like a hospital, church or school.
- Go back to school. Take a course.
- Join an aerobics or exercise class.
- Join a group working toward a goal you believe in, such as an election of a candidate.
- Invite an acquaintance out for lunch a least once a month.
- Ask a favor of a neighbor or a coworker.
- This message is to introduce a Mail List (an e-mail network) called
LOA-NET. The LOA Network is a "subscription only" electronic network consisting of *single* adult camping and RV enthusiasts who have access to Internet e-mail. The LOA-Net is an e-mail network for exchanging information, gossip, upcoming events, 'pot-luck' ideas, favorite campgrounds, or any and everything in good taste of general interest to "subscribers" of the Network. Thus, the Network works like an open forum -- a way of sharing ideas and interesting conversation just like "Happy Hour" at a campout -- and for support of friends and acquaintances who have lost a travel companion.
Subscriptions are limited to single senior adults. We are "not" a
singles group in the modern sense of the word. We join together in an electronic forum for support and companionship for outdoor and camping enthusiasts who find themselves alone.
Subscription to LOA-NET is FREE....! Once subscribed there is nothing special that one has to do to participate - no additional software or technique is required - nothing to buy or install. Just send ordinary e-mail addressed to the special LOA-NET address which will be provided to subscribers If you would like to join LOA-NET or for more information please e-mail
